DIVORCE IS A FACT OF LIFE FOR ABOUT HALF OF ALL MARRIAGES

I am a family law attorney who is committed to helping people through this difficult time in their lives by offering divorcing couples an alternative to traditional litigation.

THERE ARE ALTERNATIVES TO TRADITIONAL DIVORCE LITIGATION

I am trained as both a collaborative law attorney and mediator. I believe that going through a divorce does not have to destroy all relationships and that the children should be protected. Preserving relationships, especially the co-parenting relationship, is the goal of both collaborative law and mediation.

COLLABORATIVE LAW IS A SOLUTION-ORIENTED APPROACH THAT SEEKS TO PRESERVE THE LONG-TERM INTERESTS OF FAMILIES

Collaborative law differs from traditional litigation. In Collaborative law, couples pledge in writing to work toward an agreement without going to court until the end of the process for a simple, uncontested hearing. Dignity and self esteem are protected and the well-being of the family is preserved. The process is also confidential. Privacy is protected, unlike in traditional litigation. In collaborative law, each party is represented by an attorney with both sides working together to find a common solution as opposed to working against each other.

MEDIATION OFFERS A PEACEFUL, PERSONAL AND PRIVATE SOLUTION

Mediation uses one or two neutral trained professionals to help people reach agreements. It is a voluntary, confidential process. In divorce mediation, I do not represent either party but serve as a neutral. The goal in mediation is to reach a lasting agreement that is filed and heard as an uncontested case.

MEDIATION TO STAY MARRIED OFFERS COUPLES A CHANCE TO STAY MARRIED

Mediation to Stay Married (otherwise known as Marital Mediation) is a process for people who want to stay married but are facing marital disputes, a fact of life in any marriage. Marital mediation is designed to develop concrete solutions to these disputes in a defined period of time. Mediation to Stay Married is different from traditional couples’ therapy in that I do not delve into past or interpersonal psychological issues of the couple, but instead I use dispute resolution techniques to provide help in breaking impasses and to help couples move forward in their marriages.
